“Storm chaser” dad is still obsessed with local weather

Dear Live Grand:

My dad’s farm used to be a reporting weather station and he was even a “storm chaser” for a time. He’s now in assisted living but he’s still obsessive about local weather conditions. Dad always loved playing poker, too, but most of his group has passed on. Does a GrandPad make local weather easy to follow? What types of games are available that might interest someone who loves to play poker? Could you tell me about other features that might help entertain him when he’s not busy socializing? – TL

Dear TL:

From what you said about your dad, a GrandPad sounds like a perfect fit. These tablets have a built-in Weather app, so with the touch of a button, he’d see his current weather as well as a five-day forecast. Not only that, but he could also check on the weather his friends and family are experiencing since they’d be added to his contacts.

Speaking of his contacts, only the people whose information has been added to your dad’s personal Contacts app by the family admin could contact him, so he’d stay safe from spam calls and emails.

GrandPad’s users love the video calls and why not? They are super easy. If your dad wanted to call a family member or friend, he’d just touch the Call app, choose their image, then touch Call. When one of his contacts called him, he’d see their image on his screen and simply touch Answer.

Everyone loves the Photos app, too, since the family admin uploads photos and videos that the GrandPad user can view at any time.

Back to your dad’s love of weather, he’d have fun with the Articles app. The options include Today in History and Weekly History and articles about space, nature, and travel. There’s even a Joke of the Day which would provide him with something fun to share with his lunch group.

You mentioned, too, that he’s an avid poker player. The Games app features Blackjack and Texas Hold’em. Then, there are slots and fun games like tic-tac-toe, plus our popular memory game.

The Radio app features pre-sets such as GrandPad Radio with music and talk as well as a variety of stations from around the country. If he has a favorite station, the family admin can easily add it as an option. Then, there’s the Music app. Here, he’d find easy access to various genres and decades to choose from, and simply by touching a button, he could build his own Music Collection.

He could easily access a calculator, flashlight, or magnifying glass from within the Toolbox app, as well.

Our secret sauce is our customer service. If he had any questions, he’d just tap the HELP button and his personal representative would answer. There is someone available live, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Your dad could have a lot of fun with a GrandPad, TL. People in assisted living love sharing information, photos, and yes, weather forecasts with their friends!
